Cornwall Cottage Sampler

Sunday proved to be a very busy day.  I always go over to my parents on a Sunday morning for my breakfast and then down to MIL’s for morning coffee but added to that I had to cut DH’s hair for him.  We also needed to get some food shopping after that so it wasn’t until about 2pm that I was able to sit down and finally get a couple of hours worth of stitching in.  A couple of hours was all I was able to do as I was meeting the girls from work for something to eat before we went to the cinema to watch Fifty Shades.  Now I’ve not read the books and initially it didn’t appeal to me but a night out with the girls sounded very enticing.  I have to confess I enjoyed the film and thought it was very tastefully done considering all the hype I had heard about the books, etc.  There is actually a story behind it all - just have to wait for the next film to be made out and released at the cinema to find out what happens next.  I still don't intend to read the books though.

Anyway here is the progress photo of the Cornwall Cottage Sampler which I am still very much enjoying.  It’s the only stitching that I have been doing recently – must rectify that sometime soon!

Lotus Blossom workshop with Anja

On Saturday Lynne, Moya and myself travelled up to Exmouth for the Get Stampin’ Club run by Anja Thys of Ophelia Crafts.  We had a wonderful time creating an assortment of cards that Anja had designed as well as a box to store them in.  We used the Lotus Blossom stamp set which you are able to get free during Stampin’ Up!’s sale-a-bration promotion and the new in colours for 2015-16.  Beautiful colours and beautiful samples created by Anja.

Anja runs these workshops on a monthly basis in Exmouth on a couple of different days so if you would like to go along to one of the workshops then I would highly recommend getting in touch with her.  The day was very relaxed, inspirational and a lot of fun.

In this photo Anja is showing us how to create the box for our cards to go in.  We are already looking forward to next months workshop – not that I am wishing the time away as it goes fast enough as it is!

Shiny Stuff Paper Artsy Topic 2

I’m using the mannequin to take part in the Paper Artsy challenge topics.  Topic 2 was to use Shiny Stuff and so I’ve used some Treasure Gold on the petals that I had stamped out for topic 1 fragile papers.  It has helped highlight the embossed print on the fragile paper that I used to create the skirt on the mannequin.

Here is how my mannequin is looking at the moment.  Topic 3 has already been posted on the Paper Artsy blog and it is to use Paint.  I need to get my thinking cap on now to decide how I’m going to incorporate the paint topic – who knows I might even get it completed in time to add it to their link this time! But I doubt it LOL.

Page one complete

The Cornwall Cottage Sampler is coming along nicely and on Sunday I was able to complete the first page and make a good start on page two.  This is an absolute joy to work on each week and if I can manage a page every month (preferably a little more) I might just get it finished by the end of the year.  Off now to see how Barbi and Kati have got on this week.

Photo Box class

On Wednesday last week my friend Lynne and I travelled down to another of Margaret’s workshops at Scrapbook Magic.  We were making a photo box and this is where we got to at the end of the day using the lovely Wallflower papers by Tim Holtz.  They are absolutely gorgeous.  I still have the photo flaps to add to the inside of the box which I will do when I go down to Scrapbook Magic again at the end of the month.  It was so much fun as always – loads of laughter, plenty of tea, coffee and biscuits and an inspiration filled day.

The outside of the box – just love that bird on the paper.

Inside of the box where the photo tags will go – at the moment it’s keeping my Christmas tags safe.

Happy Valentine’s Day

Hubby and I exchanged Valentine’s cards today and he also bought me a small tin of chocolates.  He bought the tin of chocolates just for the tin as he knows how I love collecting tins and boxes – the chocolates was just an added bonus.  We also received Valentine’s cards from the two dogs that we sponsor with The Dogs Trust – aren’t they just sweet.  Initially we sponsored Apache (on the right) and Pippin, but sadly Pippin passed away last year.  I’d never even met Pippin but when I found out I still shed loads of tears for him.  I was then given Sidney to sponsor who is a little Dachshund/Jack Russell cross.  For just a small amount each month we are able to help in some small way to keeping these dogs in shelter and food and in return we receive cards and letters from them letting us know what they have been up to during the year.

Wishing you all a Happy Valentine’s Day.

Cornwall Cottage SAL

Sunday we had the pleasure of DS1 and family for the day.  With the sun shining brightly we were able to get out for a nice walk in the afternoon through the woods.  We stopped off at the play park and then called in to see our daughter at her workplace.  Lots of energy burnt off and we were all ready for our roast dinner when we got back home -  DH had stayed behind to cook it for us.  Once they had gone home I was able to get just a small amount of stitching done on the Cornwall Cottage Sampler.  I really am hoping that next Sunday I can complete the first page.

Tag Workshop

Today I travelled down to Scrapbook Magic in Mullion for the first of this years tag workshops with my friend Allie.  This year we are going to be making Christmas tags each month and once we have completed all 12 tags we will be turning them into a beautiful Christmas banner.  As usual it was great fun.

For the first tag we used a beautiful music sheet stamp, distress inks, Sizzix die cuts, ribbons and embellishments

The second tag was using distress inks, embossing folder, die cuts and embellishments.  The beauty of these tags is not only can they be turned into a Christmas banner but they can also be used as card toppers.  They are fun to put together and can be massed produced but at the same time each can be made slightly differently by using different coloured inks and embellishments.

Next week I am going down to Scrapbook Magic again with my friend Lynne where we will be making a fantastic photo box – can’t wait.  Margaret has lots of exciting classes coming up over the next year and although I have been crafting for years there is always something to be learned each time I go down there.

Wicked

Last year for my birthday DH bought tickets for us to go and see Wicked and after waiting patiently for nearly nine months (something I have done three times before LOL) it was time to see the show last night.  It was certainly worth the wait as it was totally wicked and I loved it.  I didn’t know the story behind the show other than it was done as an explanation as to why the witch of the west became wicked in the Wizard of Oz (one of my all time favourite films).  The story was brilliant, the performance was outstanding and the scenery and effects amazing.

This was the curtain they had up before the show – not the best photo but it shows the landscape of where the story took place.
DSCF4171
Talking of wicked I have finally finished the Halloween SAL from Primitive Hare so my first finish of the year.  I loved stitching this piece and can now allow myself to join in with one of her other SAL’s – just need to decide which one from these two – On Wednesdays We Stitch Black or 12 Days of Christmas.

Now to decide on which of my other WIP’s that I will concentrate my efforts on next.

Sunday SAL update

Sunday stitching started with spending ten minutes unpicking where the frog had visited last week.  After that it was all forward progress and I’ve completed about two thirds of page one of twelve now.  I’m off now to see how much Barbi and Kati have managed to do this week.

Yesterday we has a sprinkling of snow.  I actually missed seeing it falling but had the job of trying to defrost my car after I had finished work yesterday.   The snow on the top of my car was rock hard and still clinging to it this morning.  As it most often the case it didn’t last long and during the day all signs of snow were gone by the end of my working day today.
