I can see clearly now

I’ve finally picked up the penguin Christmas stocking again.  Here is how it looked the last time I worked on it way back in February – I can’t believe it has been so long since I last worked on it.  Must crack on with it now in order to get it finished in time for this Christmas.

The penguin now has both eyes so can keep a watchful eye on my progress each day.  I’ve managed to get quite a few stitches in over the past few stitching sessions but still a long, long way to go.

Mojo Monday challange #351

A couple of weeks ago while at Scrapbook Magic I picked up some lovely papers by Marion Smith from the Nirvana range and the Garment District range.  My card making and craft making  Mojo in general seems to have disappeared recently – possibly due to the fact I spent a month going backwards and forwards to the hospital visiting dad.  Thankfully he is now out of hospital for the moment.  To try and get my Mojo working again I looked around the many challenge blogs to try and get some inspiration so I could actually use some of the lovely papers that I’d bought.  I found a great sketch on the Mojo Monday challenge blog and as my brain is unable to come up with much inspiration at the I pretty much followed the sketch to a tee.

As I’d made a card for a girl yesterday I thought I’d make a boy card today – both fairly clean and simple which seems to be all I can manage at the moment.  Fingers crossed inspiration and motivation will come back soon.

Inching by to say

I feel really sorry for anyone I know who has a birthday in June – why? – because I always seem to have a mental block with their dates.  I have four important dates to try and remember.  Our DIL’s is the 3rd, our friends son Michael’s birthday on the 9th, our son-in-laws on the 18th and our nephews on the 21st.  For some reason I always seem to forget to get cards to Michael and our nephew on their due date – I have no idea why as they have been celebrating their birthdays on the same day every year for the past 14 and soon to be 18 years respectively.  For Michael I made this belated birthday card to apologise (again for forgetting) using this sweet stamp from Paper Artsy along with a sentiment on the outside of the card from Avocado Arts.  Fingers crossed I will remember to get our nephews card to him on time this Saturday especially with it being his 18th birthday – wish me luck.

Yesterday we spent some time tidying up the garden, cutting the grass and weeding mainly – I also cut some of our lovely Sweet Peas and brought them inside to place on our kitchen window sill so that we could enjoy their fragrance (well for me enjoy).

And today we took a walk along the Tarka Trail from Bideford to Instow and on our way back we came along this beautiful butterfly/moth – it really was so pretty with it’s wings of lilac and blue.  Isn’t nature wonderful.

NBUS Challenge #1

The very lovely, funny and talented Darnell of djkardkreations has set up a NBUS (Never Before Used Schtuff) challenge blog

This is an easy one as I have tons of stash that has not been used but has been patiently waiting inside my craft cupboards for just such a day and just such a challenge to come along and make their debut.  In this case it was from three different stamps sets that came free with various craft magazine.  I initially made this card design as my Father’s Day card and then decided to use the scraps that I had left over to make another three (I have another two balloons stamped out so a further two could be made at the weekend).  I’m going to be using another one of them this week for my son-in-laws birthday tomorrow but have left sentiments off the other two so that they can be used for a variety of occasions.

May’s Lily of the Valley

I have managed to work on May’s Lily of the Valley from the My Garden Journal series this weekend.  The first photo is where I had left it just over a week ago.

And here it is after the weekends stitching – I’ve really enjoyed working on this one especially as it contains the flower for my birthday month and a flower I love the look and smell of.  I am hoping that I will get it finished by the end of the week.  I think then I should concentrate on Elisha’s Christmas stocking next otherwise it is never going to be ready in time.

Storage caddy

It’s been another week of hospital visiting – Dad is doing ok.  Hopefully next week we will find out about the minor op they are going to do to sort out one of his problems, another of his problems has almost cleared up and then when the minor op has been completed they will make a decision about his more difficult to solve problem.  Amazingly enough two of the problems he has known about for several years and never bothered to go to the Dr’s to get them sorted, deciding instead to just bury his head in the sand – everything has changed and he wants them sorted NOW!

DH has gone away for the weekend so I decided in between hospital visiting I would make some time for me and enjoy a crafting project.  For months now I have been wanting to make this storage caddy which Clare Charvill did a fantastic video tutorial for on the  Graphic 45 blog.  Instead of using chipboard I used some thick black foam board that I already had ( a few minor adjustments required) and I have used papers from the Steampunk Spells paper range instead of the Mother Goose range.  This meant it would match the shoebox holder that I created some time ago.   The edges have been coloured using a red gold metallic Promarker.  This was a fun project to do and I will probably add a few embellishments to it over the coming weeks.

Wrapping paper cards

One of my birthday presents came wrapped in this lovely shiny pink wrapping paper.  I decided to re-use some of it and make a couple of quick and simple cards out of it.  I cut out the shiny pink circles and matted them onto larger black circles and then used a smaller circle punch to add some black spots to the wrapping paper background.  The sentiment is SU’s Perfectly Penned set.

My dad is still in hospital but in himself is feeling much better than this time last week.  He is due to have another scan on Tuesday and hopefully we will know a little more about what the next step is for him – hopefully it won’t be much longer before he is back home.
