2012 Review and sneak peak at new products

I set myself quite a few targets during the year, some of them met with success and a few I failed miserably at - but all in all 2012 was a good year for my leisure activities.  I started the year with 13 cross stitch WIP's of which I only managed to complete 2.  At least two projects were finished and one of them is now hung in our bedroom and the other was given away as a birthday present.  This should have meant that I only had 11 WIP's to carry forward to 2013 but of course me being me started some new projects during 2012 so this number has increased instead of decreased.  In total during 2012 I did manage to complete 7 projects which included the Fat Man SAL, 2 WIP's and four smaller pieces of stitching.

On the knitting front I managed to complete 8 items and have made a good start on another project - the baby blanket.  I also managed to read 14 books and complete 12 blocks for the Craftsy BOM something else that will be carried over into 2013.

Although I didn't achieve as much as I had hoped I did have fun with my leisure activities and that is the most important aspect.  I think for 2013 I will list my WIP's in my sidebar to keep me motivated.  Will be interesting to see just how many get the words FINISHED by the side of them by the end of the year!

I made this card for DH's birthday which was on the 15th December.  I'd just got some of the lovely new products that will be available during Saleabration, which include lovely DP's, a cute little label punch and stamps to go with the punch.  I also used the Sizzix Framelits that are available in current catalogue.  Colours used for this card were Tangerine Tango, Old Olive and Indigo Island.  There is so much coming up with the new Spring mini catalogue due out in February I think I will be having lots of crafting fun in 2013!

True Blue

DSCF1756 I came across this new to me challenge blog yeterday which is the SUO challenge blog - the perfect motivation for me to use my SU products.  The challenge is True Blue and we could use any shade of blue and for this card I have gone with Pool Party and Indigo Island.  The DP's are from a set of papers that will be available during Saleabration which starts at the end of January in the UK.  I've also used some Whisper White cardstock which I ran through the Big Shot using the spotty embossing folder.  Stamps sets used are Four Frames and Just Believe along with the frame punch and word window punch.  Just a few pearls have been added around the card for a little bit of bling.

Another wet and miserable day yesterday so apart from catching up on a few household chores I spent the rest of the day knitting (I'm almost at the halfway point of the baby blanket), reading (new book called Demon by Tosca Lee) and making the above card.  Today looks to be another dreary day weatherwise so more crafting could be on the cards again.

WOYWW #186

I hope you have all been enjoying the Christmas holidays.  While the weather outside has definitely been frightful we have had the enjoyment of seeing all our grandchildren so excited with all the presents that Santa had brought them this year.

DSCF1708My crafting this week has been spent on the baby blanket and I am happy to report that I am probably about a quarter of the way with this - fingers crossed progress will continue to go well. I decided I would spend any spare time I had over the festive period working on this as this is one project that does need to get completed in plenty of time.  Hopefully I will be back at my crafting desk soon and joining in with some of the many challenge blogs in the New Year.  Off now to check out some of the other WOYWW bloggers thanks to Julia at the Stamping Ground

WOYWW #185

DSCF1661 It's more a case of What Was on Your Workdesk today.  I had made this birthday card for our youngest Grandson's birthday but forgot to take a photo of it after I had made it and it was still on the workdesk.  It was a fun card to make using one of the papers which will be available in January and some bright coloured SU cardstock.  The stamp set is SU's Make a Monster and great for young children, the beauty of this set is you can make the monsters as freaky as you like - I kept them fairly simple as I didn't want Logan to be afraid of them.  The banner stamp is from the retired Party this Way SU stamp set along with some retired alphabet stamps.  The colours I have used are Tangerine Tango, Summer Starfruit, Indigo Island, Rich Razzleberry and Pool Party.  Don't forget to check out some of the other WOYWW desks thanks to Julia at Stamping Ground.

DSCF1655DSCF1643It doesn't seem possible that Logan is two already.  It's also hard to believe that his mum actually made this fantastic birthday cake (our daughter has never really been very domesticated) but what a difference being a mother has made!  She did have a little assistance from MIL but only on quantities to make the cake.  Logan thought it was fantastic too.

It's also MIL's birthday today and later we will be going down to her house later and celebrating with a chinese takeaway so it's party time all day today.

Day 14 Advent Calendar–Stockings, sacks or something else?

DSCF1610 Jo of Serendipitous Stitchings has organised a fantastic Advent Calendar blog hop and I am so happy to be a part of it this year and here is my offering for Day 14.  This sweet Santa design is by Prairie Schooler and is just one of the lovely designs in the booklet.  It's the first cross stitch ornament I have ever made and was really pleased with myself when I finally finished it off and it is now hanging on our Christmas tree.

Jo also asked the question of whether it was Stockings, Sacks or something else for Christmas.  When our children were young I used to fill stocking up for them with small presents, fruit and sweets which were placed at the end of their beds for when they woke up.  As they grew up this changed and all the presents were put around the Christmas tree.  We now have grandchildren and it is my hope that I will finally get round to stitching them each a Christmas stocking which I can fill up with small gifts each year and hopefully they will be able to then continue that tradition when they are adults -which gives me a few years to make them!

WOYWW #184

DSCF1608 Not a great deal has been happening on the workdesk this week, I'm not even sure where the last week went!  DH did ask me to make a birthday card for his friend so I finally got round to using up those scraps of paper from a LO I made a couple of weeks ago.  I kept it fairly simple and used a candle from the SU stamp set Party this way and a sentiment from another set.  I'm also in the process of making some more of the Rudolph chocolate holders as little gifts - they will be filled with After Eight mints.  Behind the small amount of crafting I have done are some Christmas CD's which DH found while looking for something else so I can now listen to them while at my workdesk and get into the Christmas spirit.

If you get chance then do check Julia's blog and the links of other blogs and catch up with other fellow crafters.

WOYWW #183

DSCF1597WOYWW - well for the past couple of days I have been working on the baby blanket I want to try and get completed for our friends who are having their first baby in May.  I decided to go with white and it's being worked in 4ply wool.  There are 303 stitches and 16 rows to each pattern repeat.  So far I have managed to complete 2 pattern repeats and am guesstimating that it will take approximately 21 pattern repeats to get to the desired length.  After that there is the border to do.  It's a fairly simple pattern but quite pretty at the same time.  Short and sweet today as I'm late getting this linked up and I want to check out some of the other workdesks.

Over halfway through

DSCF1594 the Craftsy Block of the Month course.  Sunday evening I managed to put together the second block for the month of June which was a very simple one and only used a couple of the fabrics.  Although I have pressed this block it doesn't look like it in the picture.  Just four more months worth of blocks to try and catch up with at some stage!  July's blocks include dresden circles which I am looking forward to as they look really pretty on the videos.  Somehow I don't think I will finish this before the year is up (but I will persevere with it).  I already have another project lined up to do in the New Year which is also by Amy.  I think I may have found the fabrics I want to use for the Sugar Block Club so I should be ready for that at least in the New Year. I will post a photo of them when they are in my possession.  I'm going to be doing this along with my friends Karen and Wynneth so hopefully we can keep each other motivated (well me mainly as Karen and Wynneth are oh so quick with their projects all the time).

Card for Father-in-law

DSCF2232 Here is the card I made to go with my father-in-laws flowers on Wednesday.  I've used one of my favourite SU stamps sets at the moment French Foliage with a sentiment from a retired set.  Various inks were used to stamp out the leaves which were then cut out and arranged around the sentiment to create the look of a wreath.  Cardstock, backing paper and ribbon from my stash.

Short and sweet today as I've been at work all day and this evening I need to try and finish some of my Christmas 'smalls' one of which I will be posting on Jo's Advent Blog - Jo has devised a post for each day of advent and a different stitcher is posting a Christmas item for people to see behind their door.  A great way of getting to know even more stitchers and seeing their stitching masterpieces.  If you have chance do pop along and see what's behind the door each day. My day to post a project is the 14th December.

December–our weekend

DSCF1571 Wow - here we are in December which means I am now officially allowed by DH to sing Christmas songs!  Yesterday was a lovely sunny day although it was a very frosty morning but we decided to pick up Logan and take him for a walk round Saltram with us and Max.  DH was mainly in charge of the camera and he came up with this beauty.  The reflection of the clouds in the lake area near the River Plym is just amazing I think - maybe I should let him lose with the camera all the time.

DSCF1582As usual Logan had great fun running along the footpaths and we even got to see three trains go by while we were out walking so he was very happy.  The train track runs alongside the River Plym which can be seen from the walk round Saltram.  We did a slightly different walk this time and headed towards the main road that comes into Plymouth so that Logan could look down on the train track.

Logan would have stayed there for ages waiting for a train and at one point he refused to walk back and sat on the floor - he didn't have a tantrum but he steadfastly refused to go any further.  Finally we managed to convince him to get moving again by letting him take control of Max and hold his lead.

DSCF1584As you can see it took him a great deal of concentration but it did finally get him up on his feet and walking and we were able to continue with our lovely walk without any upsets.  Once again the fresh air and the exercise tired him out and he fell asleep briefly in the car on the way back home.

DSCF1586We called in to see mother in law on our way home just to check everything was ok - happy to report that she seems to be coping very well at the moment.  The funeral is this Wednesday and mother in law asked if I would make a card to go with the flowers which is what I did this morning.  Father in law always liked my cards and every year he would ask me to make her a birthday, Christmas and anniversary card (all of which were in December) - it will be strange not doing that for him this year so I felt extremely honoured that mother in law asked me to do this for him.

DSCF1591Also today we got the Christmas tree down from the loft and spent this afternoon decorating the tree - we have decided that the lights we have put on the tree are not bright enough (they were originally bought to go in the conservatory each year as a festive touch) so we need to invest in some new ones.  Next year we will probably get some new decorations as we really are hoping that 2013 will be the year we will finally get round to re-decorating the lounge (something we've been saying for the past few years).  I have asked our friend to come round in January and sort the fireplace out for us so with any luck that will spur us onto to getting the rest of the room done.

There hasn't been much crafting going on this week although I have made a start on a babys blanket for our friends who are expecting their first baby in May.  This is something I have been able to do while watching TV this week as I haven't really felt like doing much else.  I have a few things to make before Christmas as little gifts and that is probably all that will get done now this year.  When the New Year arrives I will start making monthly goals again.
