Christmas - a time to share with family

I hope everyone had a lovely Christmas - we did. We spent Christmas morning at our house with our Colette, Tim and Logan - we even got ready to go to Church only to find that due to the icy conditions the church service had been cancelled!

Ian and myself had been invited to our eldest son David's house for Christmas dinner, which he cooked and it was delicious. We spent time playing with Connor and Elisha and had a really nice time.

Colette, Tim and Logan had been invited down the in-laws and Bryan was spending the day at his girlfriend Vickys house.

On Boxing Day we had Tim's family come for dinner and we enjoyed some time playing on the Wii - Colette and Tim had bought me Mario Kart.

But alas the holiday time has gone too quick and it's back to work today.

Twisted Sketch#39

This weeks Twisted Sketch is now up and the twist this week is Faith, anyway, anyhow. I came across this lovely sentiment stamp from a Time to Sow which goes perfectly with both the time of year and the twist. I hope you're all having a wonderful Christmas and wish you an enjoyable time over the festive period.

Finally a photo to share.

The lack of posts has been partly down to the fact that I had a really bad cold/flu. This was then followed by a weekend of very little sleep due to the fact that Colette finally went into labour last Saturday and on Sunday had baby Logan delivered by C-section after being in labour for over 24 hours! Thankfully both Colette and Logan are fine and here is the first of no doubt many photos I will be sharing with you over the coming weeks. Logan weighed in at a very healthy 8lbs 8 1/2 ounces.

Sweet Sunday Sketch #93

With so much going on this week I haven't had much time to craft - however I had yesterday off work and managed to make our youngest son his birthday card (hard to believe he will be 20 next week) and managed to tie it in with a challenge. This one is for Sweet Sunday. I've used the papers from the Celebrations paper set from SU and a couple of stamps from SU too.

A week of changes.

Last Friday was the last day at my old job - I'd been there for 8 years and while I was not sorry to leave the work behind it was a bit sad to say goodbye to the people I had been working with. Having said that I am sure I will still see some of them from time to time. They loved the little chocolate boxes I gave them and I loved the gifts they gave me. Firstly a gorgeous basket of flowers, which are still going strong, so pretty and one of them did ask me what I would do with the basket - to which I replied I'm sure I can fill it with stash of some kind. They also bought me some Thorntons chocolates and another small box of chocolates - Janice who bought them and knows me well - didn't have a clue what the chocolates were like, but knew I would love the box they came in! They also bought me three boxes of fruit teas (as that is all I used to drink at work) and I had some money too, which will no doubt be spent on stash when I go down to Kelly Bray on Saturday.

I also received three other lovely 'Good Luck in your New Job' cards from my friends Karen, Jill and Jacqueline - aren't they super.

My new job started on Monday, but I had already been woken up just before 1am and spent 2 1/2 hours at Derriford Hospital with Colette. She'd had a show during the day and was getting pains so as she was still classed as premature they advised her to come in so they could check her and baby out. So at 1am I was up, closely followed by Ian as he needed to help me de-ice the car! Everything was ok - baby was happy and Colette wasn't in the early stages of labour so we were sent back home. Managed to grab a couple of hours sleep before having to go into work - I'd had visions of having to ring my new employer to say I wouldn't be able to make it but thankfully that wasn't the case.

Monday and Tuesday was mainly spent going through paperwork, watching videos and other general induction procedures. Wednesday was my first early morning shift - I had to be in work for 5am and it was the quickest 7 hours at work that I have ever known - the time just flew by. It was really busy in there - not helped by the fact that there had been really heavy rain during the night, which meant the trains were severely disrupted which in turn meant the station cafe was extremely busy all day! At times I felt like a spare part as I was unable to do much due to not having had the training yet, but I have learnt how to make sandwiches, toasties and paninis - easy you might think, but you wouldn't believe what goes into making the humble sandwich for a retail outlet. Everything has to be done in a certain way and ingredients have to be weighed before being packed up and sealed for the customers. I'd forgotten how tiring it could be on the 'old pins' after being sat on my rear for the past eight years. I'm sure I'll get into the swing of things, but it's amazing just how much they have to do there and with only two people to do it I now fully appreciate all the hard work.

Day off today and I made the most of having a lie in - however, tomorrow is another early start so early to bed for me tonight.

Twisted Sketch

This weeks sketch from Twisted is very simple and yet I found it incredibly hard to work with! The twist this week is brads, anyway, anyhow. I've used SU's Kimono Kids stamp set for this challenge and the beautiful Greenhouse Gala papers again - can you tell I like that pack? I hope you'll join in with the challenge and don't forget to check out the sketch and the rest of the DT's work here.

Farewell Gifts

I am changing jobs very soon, but while I haven't enjoyed the work I have been doing in recent months I have enjoyed working with all the people within the team. Friday is my last day and I have been busy making mini pizza boxes (adapted slightly to fit contents) and filled them with Ferrero Rocher chocolates. The boxes have been made using Early Espresso, a lovely rich deep brown from SU and I have cut out the centres of the top of the box using Creative Memories cutting system and added some acetate. I've stamped one of the lovely flowers from SU's Ornate Flowers set using the matching Early Espresso ink pad. Finished it off by using one of the greetings from the Hostess Level 1 gifts and punching it out using the 1 3/4 circle punch and making two larger circles again with the CM system. Added a bow to the top corner in Old Olive.

Twisted Card Sketch #32

This weeks sketch is now up on the Twisted site and can be found here. Team B got to play this week, but as always I wanted to take part in their great sketches too! The twist this week is Punch, anyhow, anyway - I hope you'll join in with the fun. I have used some lovely papers from SU's Greenhouse Gala set, along with some Unity stamps and the small flower from SU's Vintage Vogue. The bird punch is a dream to work with. Black look - Twisted Sketch LO

I've finally created a scrapbook LO - the first one since the retreat way back in June. Perhaps with the help of the Twisted Sketches LO's I might even get some more completed! This photo is of our dear dog Max who I caught inside our bed and who isn't allowed in the bed (on it yes but not in it). He knew as soon as I walked in our bedroom that his time of being snuggled under the duvet was going to be over - hence the black look. The Twisted Sketch can be found here and the twist was Black, anyhow, anyway.

There is a lovely little stamp set in the new SU catalogue called Always (pg 43 if you have a catalogue). One of the stamps is very ornate and I decided to turn it upside down and make it into a Christmas tree. I have used the top end of the small tag punch and added the small border stamp that is also in the set to decorate the top of the pot for the tree to stand in. A few of the gorgeous rhinestones were added to give it some bling. The new border stamp is beautiful to work with it as is the lovely ribbon I have added for decoration. The sentiment is from the lovely Curly Cute set. Hope you like my use of this stamp - off to see what else I can make from it now!

The Twisted Sketch for this week is below, anyhow, anyway and the added twist this week is glitter. More inspiration can be found here from the Design Team.

I have used a Unity border stamp and a Unity sentiment stamp (one of my favourites). For added dimension I have cut out some of the flowers on the tree and added stickles to make them sparkle. I've also used a couple of the flowers from the SU Simply Said set. Colour scheme this week is using some of the In Colours from SU. Hope you'll join in with the sketch.

Welcome Christmas

I love the traditional feel of this stamp set and decided to keep this card simple by using just black, white and crumb cake. The greeting comes as a complete image, but I have just cut the design in half and added one part to the top and the the other half to the bottom just to show another way of using it. The new rhinestones are gorgeous and are great for that little bit of bling. The background was created using the wreath from the same set.

Here is my first card for the Twisted Sketches Card Design Team - I had so much fun playing with this one. The sketch can be found here and the twist this week is Jewel - anyhow, anyway. I've rotated the sketch as I stumbled across this great image in my stash (while looking for something else) and then I remembered I had some stamps that would fit perfectly with the idea that formed in my head. Hope you like it and I hope you'll take part in the sketch too.

Approximately 8 weeks to go...

... before our daughter Colette gives birth to her first child and what will be our third grandchild. So that means I need to crack on and try and finish the baby sampler I am doing for them. They decided to find out the sex of the baby so we know it is going to be a little boy. The design is from The World of Cross Stitching magazine and I have completed almost half of it so I will be doing a few stitches each evening from now on so that hopefully all I will have to add is the date he is born. They already picked out his name, but I think I will leave that blank too, just in case there is a change of mind.

Pink and Girly

This card I think meets the criteria for lots of challenges, Cowgirls Sunday Challenge had to be a girly creation using pearls/diamonds/ribbon/lace/feathers anything else girly. Stamptacular Sunday wanted you to use buttons, flowers and the word friend(ship). I've used the sketch from Friday's Sketchers. For the Just add Ink challenge it was to depict feminine, beautiful & proud in honour of breast cancer - needing to use bling and pink (however as I'm entering it for more than 3 challenges I can't enter it for their challenge). Finally a pink and female image for Raise the bar again for breast cancer awareness.

Finally I can share my news....

... I made the card Design Team for Twisted Sketches - yippee! I heard a few days ago, but I was sworn to secrecy until the announcement was made on their blog - I am so looking forward to working with them. I stumbled across their challenge blog and I am so glad I did as their sketches are such a great source of inspiration - hope you'll take a look at the blog and join in the sketches with me each week too.

Two challenges in one - for a change!

I think I can submit this card for two challenges - firstly a very new one to me called Joan's Gardens which you had to use a vertical strip of paper, alter the background card/paper in some way, die cut flower and a swirl. It also fits in nicely with the Cute Card Thursday challenge, which was to create your own embellishments.

Tony, who I work with will be turning 40 on Saturday, he plays golf and loves the meerkat adverts so when I saw Gary the golfing meerkat on Create and Craft I knew it would be just perfect for him (I didn't buy it from them though - went direct to the maker). A very simple LO for this one but I was pleased with the end result as I had to build the scene with all the different stamps - did think about colouring it and layering, but decided to keep it simples! Apologies for the poor photo - I had to take it yesterday evening so that DH could take it into work with him today as Tony is on leave Friday.

New Stamps & New Papers from the NEW SU catalogue

My idea this time - I will be demonstrating this card during the October workshops. It's going to be one of those cards you either love or hate - for me the jury is still out, but I'm swaying now to the "I quite like it now!" I just wanted to show off some of the lovely new papers from SU - this set probably most people wouldn't use for Christmas - probably sticking to more arty cards. However, when I saw the numbers paper I thought of the twelve days of Christmas and the music paper made me think of Christmas carols. I also wanted to mix contemporary with a bit of artyness and make people think outside the box (something I don't always do either).

Linda & Lisa's 1st SU Extravaganza photo overload!

This was our first SU Extravaganza, which we had great fun putting together and it would appear that the 13 lovely ladies that were able to make it on the day (sadly Janice was unable to make it at the last minute) enjoyed themselves thoroughly - at least that's what was said on the feedback sheets. When is the next we were asked!
